How to post a message in the ExReps Forums Area

The new Forums area on ExReps is provided as a way for the ExReps community to be able to publish their notes and information directly to the site, without having to wait on the old guy in Vegas to get around to it.

The Forums area is basically a souped up version of an old fashioned BBS system, it is pretty easy and intuitive system once you have tried it out a time or two, this note is intended to walk you though your first time ever making a post to the system. If you have any problems with it, drop me a line at jayc@ExReps.com and I will do my best to help you out.

Getting an account in the Forums Area, and the help function

When you visit the site you land in the Forums Area by default, if you want to go to the Website, you can simply click on the Website, or any of the other buttons at the top of the page.

If you have not registered for an account, you will have guest status, but you can still read the postings on the system.

To get an account, simply click on the register button, and you will be presented with a short form to fill out. when you have completed the form an email will be sent to the address you registered with. Reply to the email by clicking on the link and your registration is complete.

Please note the help button on the top page of the Forums area, by clicking on this button you will be able to read a short guide on how to use the ExReps Forums.

Making a post

Using the Forums is pretty intuitive and generally there are help messages scattered along the way to act as a guide, but this section is provided to walk you through the process for the first time. This example is for making a post in the general discussions Board in the Introductions topic. To open a board for reading or posting, simply click on the name of the board, in this case "General Discussions"

With the board opened, you need to click on a topic to open it for reading In this case we are going to read and reply to something in the introductions topic, so we click on "Introductions" to open the topic.

At this point you can  reply to one of the posts in the topic Clicking on the "Reply" button will open a new screen where you can enter your contribution to the on going discussion. Clicking on the Send button will let you email the entire discussion to someone. There are many more things you can do from this, and many of the other screens. Experiment with the system you will probably find it easy to use.

Starting a new topic

Once you have registered for an account you will see some new buttons appear when you open a board, one of these is the new topic button.  If you want to start a new topic of discussion, just click on new topic

Starting a new Board

We can create a new board for a special purpose, an example might be that you want to have a separate area to discuss a specific topic, ExReps is here to provide services for the community.  Just drop a note to jayc@exreps.com with your request.  Please try to outline what the purpose of your board would be, and who the intended audience would be. Generally speaking, for special boards the organizer is provided with special access behind the scenes so they can perform the job of moderator.
