Realf C. Saxton

Philco Tech Rep - No longer with us . . .

If you have recollections or personal remembrances please send them in so they can be posted here.

I'm writing with some bad news.

My father, Realf Saxton, passed away last Monday, Sept. 15 at Stanford Hospital after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

We are arranging for memorial services at Our Lady of the Wayside Catholic Church in Portola Valley, 930 Portola Rd. at 4 pm on Thursday, Sept. 25.

We surely miss my Dad.

Thank you,

Ronnie Saxton-Carlson

It was about 1964, on East Meadow Circle (Philco Compound) that I really learned the nature of the real Ed Saxton.

Ed of course had the publication activity and just across the parking area I had the FE&I activities.

I had always respected Ed from afar and with misunderstanding, as his personality was at times as course as he could look.  Undecided  Intimidation is the word that best described my feelings for Ed.  We really never had many dealings, other than at staff meetings that were chaired by Dudley Wagar, and at one time by our marketing manager Don O'Rear.   Don opened the door at WDL for the TechREp Division and was held in high regard in that respect.

One day Ed came into the FE&I building and to my office, where he closed the door and sat down for a chat.  I was thinking, which one of our chaps had come in crosswise with Ed, and Publications?   ED had a problem and to my surprise he really opened up on the issue.  Angry

Seems that he had a very nice lady doing document proofreading .  ED's main stay was the production of Manuals for the Military world, and of course WDL and Lockheed.

The problem he faced was that of dealing with this lady, and her strong religious feelings.  She felt that she had to pass the word of her beliefs, and would insert little notes into the manuals, that she hoped would provide guidance for the reader.

There were rumblings getting back to Ed, that required his action to stop such activity.  In this regard he asked if I had any open slots where he could plant this lady, as one step towards her leaving, at least his operation.

I saw the soft side of this fine person , Ed Saxton, on that day, and have held him in high regard  and admiration ever since.  I wish he were alive so that I could pass this comment to him directly.

I had little or no activity for the lady and she remained only a short while before she visited IR for re-assignment

Remembering Ed Saxton  I am  Bob Vogt  now of Phoenix.
