Jay;
Here's an email I received about Milt (Skip)
Ward. Wish it wasn't true.
I know he was in Thailand and Iran with
Philco-Ford. Don't know where else.

| I worked with Skip in Iran, still remember him mowing the sand in his front yard in Jask/Bander Abbas. He will be missed. | ||||

I met Milt at Khon Kaen on the IWCS contract for
Philco-Ford back in 1967. Next ran into him in Iran on Peace Ruby in
1970-71 where we worked at some sites together (Tehran, Bandar Abbas,
Jask and Shiraz) and became friends. I remember Milt as a hard
charging/laid back sort of guy with a terrific sense of humor. Mostly,
remember standing around a teamhouse bar with Milt and others just
shooting the breeze and having a good time. He was a good guy. We lost touch over the years until I saw he was a member of Exreps.com here a few years ago. We sent emails back and forth about our impending retirements. My wife and I retired to Udorn, Thailand back in 2006 and I was surprised to get an email from Milt last November (2008) asking where in Thailand were we living. Turned out that Milt and his wife, newly retired, were visiting her folks in Khon Kaen and Udorn. We met them at their hotel in Udorn and talked over old times for a couple of hours over a couple of Singha beers. Made tentative plans to go out to dinner in the future after Milt came back from the States. Didn't hear anymore from Milt until received the sad notice from Jay yesterday. Wife and I called Milt's wife (still in Khon Kaen) today and got a few more details. After Milt arrived back in Khon Kaen from his trip to the States he wasn't feeling well and was checked into the hospital in that city where he died a month later from cancer. Wish I could have visited him at the hospital but will remember him as the guy in the picture that I posted in Exreps Photo Gallery (Iran - Peace Ruby) a couple of years ago. Milt Ward, a true friend. RIP. |
